This course is designed to offer an introduction to the features of Adobe photoshop enabling one to get the most from their photography experience.
Meeting once a week for ninety minutes, this five week course will cover the salient features of Adobe Bridge, Adobe Camera Raw, and Photoshop.
Topics will include: Downloading, organizing and navigating files on your computer/hard drive utilizing Bridge.
Performing preliminary editing/processing of Raw files using Adobe Camera Raw editor.
Understanding basic concepts of editing photographs and advancing to a more structured workflow with Photoshop.
The main emphasis of this course will work on the premise that every photograph requires some editing/processing in order to optimize to the fullest of what one’s camera is capable of producing.
Week 1) An introduction to Photoshop for photographers. Downloading photographs from the camera/memory card to the computer. While there are a number of ways to do this, we will feature Adobe Bridge’s Photo downloader option.
An introduction to the Bridge interface-customization options. How to organize files. Navigate, rank, label and sort files. Opening files in ACR (Adobe camera raw).
Topics for discussion: camera settings with respect to quality, bit depth and color space.
Week 2) An in depth demonstration of ACR. Advantages of using ACR for initial edits. The concept behind Non-destructive edits.
Week 3) Advance edits using ACR. Opening edited files in photoshop. The photoshop workspace. The toolbar, options bar, layers panel, history states. Undertaking a structured workflow.
Week 4) Advanced editing options within photoshop. Understanding layers, masking and AI options.
Week 5) Arriving at a finished image. Saving options. Preparing an image for print and or social media.
*Participants are best prepared with the following: A digital camera (not a cell phone), a laptop computer, an adobe Photoshop subscription, memory card reader.
