Optimized for Handheld Use
Avoiding the traditional size and weight difficulties associated with super-telephoto setups, this 600mm f/6.3 is easy to bring with you for a day of handheld shooting, ensuring you'll have the reach you need in any situation.
  • A maximum aperture of f/6.3 allows the lens to be shorter and lighter without significantly compromising light-gathering abilities when paired with the OSS.
  • Thanks to the use of a single front element, the center of gravity of the lens is shifted toward the camera body, resulting in a well-balanced design perfect for handheld use.
  • With a length of 9.5" and weighing only 2.2 lb, this lens looks closer to a 70-200 f/2.8 than a super-telephoto prime. Compared to the FE 600mm f/4, this f/6.3 version weighs 4.5 lb less and measures 8.2" shorter in length.
High-Speed AF, Powerful OSS
Designed for speed, precision, and reliability, the focusing and stabilization systems make this lens perfectly suited for capturing sports and wildlife without a tripod.
  • Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors generate fast and responsive AF performance that's equally quiet and smooth. The focusing system is compatible with continuous still and video shooting speeds up to 120 fps.
  • Full-time manual focus override is possible, and an internal focusing design is used to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
  • A focus range limiter and four focus hold buttons provide greater control over your autofocus responsiveness to ensure you never miss a shot.
  • An advanced Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system ensures sharp imagery while shooting handheld. Three modes are available: standard (Mode 1), panning (Mode 2), and moving subjects (Mode 3).

Teleconverter Compatibility
The FE 600mm f/6.3 GM OSS is compatible with the separately available Sony FE 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters. These teleconverters can be used while still retaining full autofocus and auto-exposure capabilities. When used, the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters will provide effective focal lengths and apertures of 840mm f/8 and 1200mm f/11, respectively.
